Things are changing faster than usual under the pandemic. People’s spending on restaurants has plummeted to nearly zero, but that on mobile data and broad band has surged. Travel expenses are being saved, but precautionary health care spend is rising. It doesn’t take much to realise that we are using digital payments more than ever before. The local kirana shop, the fruit seller, the cab driver is accepting, in fact, preferring payment on digital platform. So the Unified Payments Interface (UPI),has crossed an important milestone this year. Since April, the value of all UPI transactions in the country has exceeded the amount Indians are withdrawing from ATM’s nationwide.
